Sharon Estee Manager of Research Services Center for Health Statistics P.O. Box 47814 Olympia, WA 98504-7814 email: sle0303@doh.wa.gov NEW TELEPHONE NUMBER 360 236-4321 ********************* Forwarding Message ********************* The new poverty estimates are also now available on the Missouri State Census Data Center server, both the orginal ascii ".dat" file and as a SAS dataset that can be accessed via uexplore to extract the state or states you are interested in. The URL is http://www.oseda.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/uexplore?/mscdc/data/saipe@secure to "explore" the right directory. Naturally, the dataset of interest is near the bottom of the page -- it's ussd95.ssd01. You can also view ussd95.Metadata.html for a really brief document file with a link back to the Bureau for the official background info. To select data for just your state, click on the ussd95.ssd01 file name, accept the default application on the next page. Select the format(s) you want on the next page and hit continue. On the "Filter Specifications" page, select State as the variable, "In list" as the operator, and then enter the list of FIPS state codes separated by colons in the VALUE box (e.g. 36:42:34 could be entered to select data for NY, PA and NJ.) On the final page you can select all the variables or you can be selective. The SAS setup that created the dataset is less than an hour old so we cannot guarantee reliability. You can see the code by selecting the Tools directory and then clicking on the saipe95.cnvt.sas file. Missouri folks can browse the Missouri_1995_School_District_Povedrty_Estimates report file as well. (We subconsiously spelled poverty that way to indicate that these are not particularly "clean" estimates.) Or just click on the ussd95.dat file and download the ascii version.
