Community Access to Natural Resources Information (CANRI) allows anyone to = access the latest maps and other natural resource information for New = South Wales via the Internet. "CANRI places the NSW Government at the forefront of international efforts = to provide its citizens with the most current environmental information = available," Dr Refshauge said. "The system is unique in that it allows = users to overlay and merge maps, and present environmental data from = different sources to form an individual profile of any area of the State". CANRI appears to be the world's first operational program to use new = OpenGIS standards to integrate and present environmental maps, as well as = tables and graphs from many government agencies and community groups in = real-time. The new CANRI homepage is a portal of an impressive range of State-wide = interactive natural resource websites including a Natural Resources Atlas = and Data Directory as well as websites focused on wildlife, soils, rivers = and State of Environment reporting. The NSW Government has allocated $AUD 4 million to the four-year CANRI = program that began in July last year. Funding was also provided under the = Commonwealth Government's Australian Coastal Atlas program. * Visit CANRI at http://www.canri.nsw.gov.au * Read the full media release at http://www.canri.nsw.gov.au/press * More technical information is at http://www.canri.nsw.gov.au/tech * Details of the CANRI launch at Parliament House (including audio of the = Deputy Premier's speech) are at http://www.canri.nsw.gov.au/activities/laun= ch * Stay in touch with CANRI by registering for CANRI-News (announcements) = and CANRI-Talk (discussion) at http://www.canri.nsw.gov.au/feedback_registe= r.html Jonathan Doig Program Director Community Access to Natural Resources Information New South Wales Government, Australia Ph: +61 2 9228 6278 jdoig@canri.nsw.gov.au http://www.canri.nsw.gov.au --=_C29912DF.B5D4A918 Content-Type: text/html Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="CANRI_teaser.html" Content-Description: HTML CANRI: Community Access to Natural Resources Information
