The Montana Natural Heritage Program is seeking a Native Species Zoologist/Program Manager. This is one of three core scientist positions, and has lead responsibility for collecting, managing and applying information on animal species of conservation concern in Montana. The Montana Natural Heritage Program, the state's clearinghouse for biodiversity information, has a national reputation for performance and innovation and is one of the leading U.S. heritage programs in the application of emerging technologies. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual who will complement our team of conservation professionals. Responsibilities include compiling data on species of concern from surveys, biologists and other sources; managing tabular and spatial databases on species' status and distribution; designing, securing funds for and conducting field studies of priority species/habitats; preparing reports and other information products; and contributing to species conservation and management planning; managing and building the MTNHP Zoology Program; and associated administration and supervision. This individual will work closely with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the U.S. Forest Service, and other resource management and conservation partners. Requirements: Master's or Doctorate and at least two years of professional experience in zoology, wildlife biology, or related area (or equivalent education and experience). Working knowledge of the fauna of Montana and their habitats; demonstrated proficiency in field inventory, monitoring, research design, sampling techniques; experience with statistical analysis, managing spatial and relational data, habitat modeling, and applying data to adaptive management. Experience raising funds for survey or research projects, and managing complex projects, budgets and professional staff. Strong organization and communication skills; demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships among professionals and agencies.
