As UW employees, our use of UW computing and networking resources is governed by Washington State law. Of particular interest are these sections of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and the Revised Code of Washington (RCW): o State resources, including email, are not for personal use: WAC 292-110-010 o You may not use persons, money or property under your control for commercial gain: RCW 42.52.160 o Do not use public resources for political campaigns: RCW 42.17.180 o Your email is subject to the Public Records Act: RCW 42.17.260 These codes can be accessed from www.washington.edu/tech_home/rules.html Here are a few other tips: o Chain mail is against policy and could be illegal, so please don't send or forward any. In general, don't send unwanted email to anyone. o Your Uniform Access computing account is provided for your work at the University. Once you create an account on any UW computer, you're responsible for all use made of that account. o Most software, images, and files available for use on computer networks, including the Web, are protected by federal copyright laws. It's University of Washington policy to respect federal copyright and license protections. o Reports of illegal activities or policy violations will be turned over to the appropriate authorities and could result in revocation of access, suspension of accounts, disciplinary actions, and prosecution. To learn more: Official information on these topics is published on the UW Web Home Page, accessible via a Web browser or by using the UWIN information navigation software. Any time you need up-to-date computing information, see the Computing & Networking Web page at www.washington.edu/tech_home and for details about following the rules, see www.washington.edu/tech_home/rules.html If you have questions, please send them to help@cac.washington.edu Thank you, University of Washington Computing & Communications Email: help@cac.washington.edu Phone: 543-5970 [Note: This reminder is periodically sent to all Uniform Access computer account holders.] .
