Nationally known experts will present their research, and will participate in a panel discussion/ Q&A session. Presenters include: Susan Nall Bales, Director of the Center for Non Profit Communications Research, (formerly Director of Children's Programs and Strategic Communication at the Benton Foundation), "Public Opinion and the Challenge of Children's Issues." Katharine E. Heintz-Knowles of the School of Communications at the University of Washington, "Balancing Acts: Work/Family Issues on Prime Time TV." Lawrence Aber, Director of the National Center for Children in Poverty, Columbia University, "Strategic Communications in Child Poverty: Two State Pilot Campaigns (CT and CA)." Richard Brandon, Executive Director of the Human Services Policy Center, University of Washington, will discuss the work of Dr. Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr., entitled, "The Influence of Local Television News Frames on Attitudes about Childcare" and then help us begin our afternoon work on practical applications of the morning's information.
