Apparently the Army agrees with that opinion-I got that long awaited promotion to specialist. Major Ekstrom and MSG Parker pinned on my shiny new "sham" shields (that's what they're affectionately known as around these parts...for those of you unfamiliar with the term, its a referrence to 'shamming' or finding ways to avoid work, a pastime strongly associated with specialists. Ha ha, sometimes very true to the point, I've personally observed during my time as a private). 1SG Brooker concluded our little ceremony by "gently" patting the unbacked rank. The most enjoyable part of this (besides the knowledge that my work is appreciated, my wage increase, and the general satisfaction) is the fact that I now outrank my highly annoying room mate. Ah, yes, the next few weeks will be very enjoyable. Ha, ha, he's lucky I'm not the type to abuse the turning of the tables. Much. Not much else really going on. It is beginning to cool off (its down to 110 in the shade). Mortar attacks are slightly less frequent. The food still leaves much to be desired. Our low-quality beds were upgraded by base housing. We now enjoy sub-standard beds. The housing representative looked at me as though I was a crazy person as I tried to explain to him that it was completely unnecessary to replace my current bed with one that was exactly the same. Landlords are the same everywhere, I guess. Oh, we finally got a new room for mail. That is great news. We don't have to work out of the broom closet anymore. Take care, Anthony .
