The Western Section of The Wildlife Society (TWS), in conjunction with the
University of California Cooperative Extension, will present a workshop on
Diseases of California Wildlife at the University of California, Davis on
March 24-26, 2000. The emphasis of the workshop will be on diseases that are
commonly encountered in California wildlife or that are significant because
of their potential implications for wildlife management, public health, or
the livestock industry. The workshop will consist of two full days of
lecture and an optional half-day necropsy wet lab on the third day (space
limited). A California Wildlife Disease Manual is being produced which will
be provided to all those registering for the workshop. The manual will
contain information on specific diseases by species affected, available
laboratory/ diagnostic services, and resources for additional information or
assistance.

The keynote speaker is internationally known wildlife disease expert Dr.
Gary Wobeser of the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Wobeser is an authority
on the ecology and management of wildlife diseases and the author of the
recently published text books Investigation and Management of Disease in
Wild Animals and Diseases of Wildlife Waterfowl.

The intended audience for the workshop includes wildlife biologists,
wildlife students, wildlife rehabilitators, veterinarians, veterinary
students, animal control personnel, and other interested individuals.
