First of all, what in the world could have happened between these guys to make them give up on Failure? It's true that barely any of my other cd's (including Comfort and Fantastic Planet) can even hold a candle to Magnified (in my opinion), so I guess maybe they just look on Magnified as some sort of "alignment of the stars" that can't ever happen again. Still, it sucks that I don't have any other cd that has "that sound" of Magnified; I do appreciate their giving it a try with Fantastic Planet though, even though it obviously (in my opinion) didn't work out nearly so well. The sound in Magnified, that dissonant/unsettling sound that I have only heard Failure achieve, is just so damn incredible. If I had to describe it in terms of a mood, all I could come up with is the word "failure". Appropriately. How in the hell did these guys manage to come up with songs like Small Crimes, Wonderful Life, Empty Friend, Bernie, etc.?? Well, I could go on and on about how much it sucks that they broke up, and how much it sucks that I never saw them live, but what's the point? Kevin morgoth@mit.edu .
