Carmichael" To: llc-list@u.washington.edu Subject: Secure file transfer & web publishing Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Greetings, LLC-LIST, You may have noticed by now that the "Internet Neighborhood" setup you used last quarter to ftp files to/from your dante/homer accounts doesn't work anymore! That's because in late December, C&C began requiring SECURE file transfers (in addition to secure email--remember when you had to start using the secure SSH email terminal?). Here is what you do: Go to http://www.washington.edu/computing/software/uwick/contents.html and download the right secure file transfer package for your computer. Because of the increased security, you may encounter a "permissions" quirk if you upload Web pages and then try to use them. To resolve this problem, go to: http://www.washington.edu/computing/faqs/html/sftp.fix and follow the instructions there. Also, in order to be able to publish a Web page through your dante/homer account, you'll need to activate web publishing first. To do this, go to: (faculty) http://www.washington.edu/computing/web/publishing/faculty.html or: (students) http://www.washington.edu/computing/web/publishing/students.html and follow the instructions there. Publishing your own student, faculty, or course web page is fast and easy! Give it a try! If you need help getting started, go to: http://www.washington.edu/computing/web/publishing/author.html for resources and tips. And please feel free to use LLC-LIST to share your experiences about publishing web pages or using technology in your language teaching, or to get feedback on your ideas. Thank you, Lesley LLC-LIST owner .
