Remembering our query and thread of some time back on this
subject: an addendum on a point not then -- I think -- made :

Namely, that "by far our oldest MS of Latin poetry" (Anderson et al.,
_JRS_ 69 (1979), p.128) in fact, if not exactly an autograph, *could*
have been the author's own property, and/or have been made in
his personal environment.

Here we're talking -- as some of you may now have guessed -- C.
Cornelius Gallus and PQasr Ibrim inv. 78-3-11/1 (L/2).

I'd be very interested whether any of you have any thoughts on
such possibilities. I just came across the article on the lines
involved by Janet Fairweather, "The 'Gallus papyrus': a new
interpretation", in _CQ_ 34.1 (1984), p.167-174 [a period that
I myself was totally uninvolved in the Classics field].
