I, on the other hand, teach in Hebrew to people whose native language may be anything from Arabic to Japanese and who may be trying to find the book in whatever second or third language they find most nearly compatible. That, at any rate, is the only way I can explain the unfortunate student who explained to me that she had not read the proper comedy for my survey course. I had assigned the _Miles Gloriosus_ ("Ha-chayyal ha-ravravan" in Hebrew -- one might offer "The overblown soldier" as an imitation of the expressiion). She had tried to find it in another language -- Russian, I believe -- and had wound up reading the _Hippias Major_. Even the author seemed right -- who was to tell her that the "u" in the name "Plautus" was essential? I hope she got some good guffaws out of it. David M.
