The incumbents will employ functional genomics approaches for the study of development in plant-parasitic nematodes of agricultural importance. The primary goal is to clone and characterize genes involved in developmental arrest and sensory processing (the dauer pathway) and to identify novel methods to disrupt nematode development. One objective is the construction and analysis of stage-specific cDNA libraries to reveal novel targets for nematode control. Another objective is the adapataion of C. elegans transformation and gene knockout strategies (RNAi) for the study of gene function in plant parasitic nematodes.
