Unfortunately the moderation protection was overridden on all moderated newsgroups. While there is no technical way at present to stop this kind of broadcast on USENET (one can only cancel it after it happens), we are working on a way to protect the mailing lists and hope to have this implemented in another week or so both here and at our UK distribution site. Currently we use features of the news software to prevent possible message loops on the mailing lists, and need to make this transition carefully. Internet junk mail is an increasing concern in general. The complete Society mailing list is not open for retrieval here as are mailing lists at many other LISTSERV sites. We strive hard to keep your addresses confidential and are working to plug this other hole regarding forged approvals as soon as possible. Sorry for the incovenience. Sincerely, Dave Kristofferson BIOSCI/bionet Manager biosci-help@net.bio.net .
