              Welcome to the Drosophila Bulletin Board

The news that the proposal for the new Drosophila Bulletin Board had
been accepted was received on the first day of the San Diego Fly 
Meeting.  The purpose of this bulletin board is to allow fly people
to communicate rapidly with each other - and for non-fly people to
communicate with the Drosophila community. As announced at San Diego
the bulletin board will be one way in which FlyBase will announce
changes to the Drosophila database. A bulletin on FlyBase will be posted
very shortly. 

Please use the bulletin board just as you would use a notice board
at a meeting - ask for stocks, clones, information; notify intention
to discard  stocks that ight be of interest to others; use it to post
information about local fly meetings (you never know who might then drop in);
post data on the results of cryogenic experiments; post anything that you
think will be of general interest to the fly community. Please do NOT
post bulletins of general or political interest (there are other
bulltin boards for these).

The success or failure of this bulletin board depends on you. Well used
it will become a very valuable service to the Drosophila community. Have
fun !
