This is achieved by protein engineering of a bacterial haem protein, cytochrome c-550. For a proper understanding of the factors that influence the catalytic properties of these new proteins, detailed structures of the proteins and, in particular, the active sites, are essential. The dynamics of the protein variants also need to be established in depth. The researcher will focus on the elucidation of these topics by NMR. Candidates have to be a citizen of a member state (or associated state) of the European Union. Experience with NMR on biomolecules and/or with protein biochemistry is an advantage. The grant is for one year with the possibility of an extension. Monthly pay in the DFL 2 500 - 3 500 range depending on qualifications and experience. The position is available as per May 1st, 1998.
