The research will focus on the study of cellular events controlling the birth, migration and differentiation of neurons using genetic approaches in Drosophila and mouse models. Genes of interest include the Drosophila bHLH proneural genes and neuralized (Delidakis), the murine neurl gene (Moschonas) and new genes involved in differentiation and migration in the mammalian forebrain (Karagogeos). Previous experience in molecular biology is necessary and some exposure to microarray expression profiling is desirable. The applicants must hold a PhD degree and be 35 years old or less. They must be EU (non-Greek) nationals or nationals of an EU Associated country. If they are non-EU or Associated country nationals, then they must have resided in an EU country for at least the last 5 years. The IMBB provides very good infrastructure for molecular biology, microscopy (transmission/ Nomarski, fluorescence and confocal), flyroom, transgenesis and cell culture facilities, sequencing service etc. In combination with the neighbouring Medical School and Biology Dept. of the University of Crete, there is a good-sized biomedical community fostering scientific exchange and creativity. The labs are located in a rural setting a few kilometres outside the city of Heraklion - a bustling mediterranean port city catering for all needs of a modern lifestyle but also full of historical charm. The countryside of Crete provides excellent opportunities for outdoors activities and is within easy reach from the city. Cost of living is still low by comparison to most other EU countries. Interested applicants are asked to contact directly any of the following P.I.s : Christos Delidakis (delidaki@imbb.forth.gr), Domna Karagogeos (karagoge@imbb.forth.gr), Nikos Moschonas (moschona@imbb.forth.gr). __________________________________________________ IMBB-FORTH office: +30-81-391-113 Box 1527 lab: +30-81-391-142 Vasilika Vouton fax: +30-81-391-104 Heraklion GR-71110 Greece --- .
