We just had an article accepted for Chemistry and Physics of Lipids in which a local physician here in Pittsburgh, PA, synthesized a lipid for us, MPPC. He analyzed the chains using phospholipase A2 from snake venom to see how much contamination of the positional isomer there had been. He used gas chromatography followed by mass spectrometry. That way there is unequivocal identification of the products. Did you cleave off just one chain? Maybe this would help you to see what is going on. Also, MS after GC is very valuable. Hope this helps. Please visit our web-site at http://bilayer.phys.cmu.edu. Sincerely, Dr. Stephanie Tristram-Nagle .
