The Drosophila gene and chromosomal aberration data sets include information obtained through the curation by FlyBase of genetic and aberration information from 2247 publications, most dated after Lindsley and Zimm. As a result the size of the aberration dataset has increased by about 10%, and the gene dataset has increased in size by about 60%. FlyBase now contains 23,878 alleles of 8676 genes. In addition, FlyBase records 10,863 chromosomal aberrations. All of this information can be searched in a variety of ways, including use of cytological segments to retrieve genetic entities, such as genes, in that segment, as well as deleted or duplicated regions including the segment, or aberration breakpoints falling within the segment. Primary methods for getting to FlyBase information include using gopher to flybase.bio.indiana.edu or a World Wide Web browser (like Mosaic, Netscape, or lynx) to the URL http://morgan.harvard.edu/ (our generally recommended URL) or http://flybase.bio.indiana.edu/1/Flybase (for an alternative view of FlyBase data, including some experimental views) If you have any comments or questions about FlyBase services, please send email to us at flybase-help@morgan.harvard.edu If you wish to correct or update any of the information in FlyBase, please send email to flybase-updates@morgan.harvard.edu .
