The work I was thinking of is each of us individually translating to our preferred word processors, and of equations with more doodads than the one you showed -- PDE's of higher orders, matrices, differential geometry operators, etc. Since I use LaTeX, naturally I find the notation pretty intuitive, and it fits tidily on a couple of pages of the LaTeX manual (if you'll grant that \gamma is pretty obvious -- though come to think of it we'd need to say we meant Greek gamma and not the gamma function). Perhaps we should simply poll ourselves on our present uses and pick one or two of them (preferably easily converted) as media for exchange. Toni .
