At the moment only one group has been created and that is: sysbio.discussion The reason for creating this news server is to avoid much of the spam now present on usenet and to allow greater flexibiliy in the choice of groups. You can access this news server at the fixed ip address of 131.215.183.117 Server port number at 119 (usual default) Perhaps at some time later, the raw ip addres might be replaced with a domain name, for the moment is just the number! For example, to access this news server from Outlook Express go to Tools, access the Accounts.. menu item, pick the Add button, select News and follow the instructions, when asked to input the NNTP srever, enter the above ip address. Alternatively go to http://www.sys-bio.org and simply select the newgroup link at the top-left hand corner of the page. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have tentatively also considered forming the following groups: sysbio.announce sysbio.bionetworks sysbio.metabolic-reg sysbio.sbml sysbio.software sysbio.experimental If you have any comments on these groups, for example you would like more specific groups created, names changed, or even some of the suggested groups removed, then please send comments for discussion to sysbio.discussion Discussion on this matter will proceed for one week, after which, if there aren't any issues, these groups, and any other popular requests, will be created. I've made the suggested groups quite generic (except perhaps for the sbml group). This is so, that at least initially, discussions aren't spread out too thinly. If a need arises for further more specific groups then do please voice your suggestions. metabolic-reg is suggested to follow on from the same usenet group. The bionetworks group is aimed at being more general and not, as metabolic-reg implies, be confined to discussions relating to metabolic pathways (many people make a distinction so best be safe). We could of course dispense entirely with metabolic-reg and simply have bionetworks or something similar. Others may have different views on this, including the naming 'bionetworks' etc, please do voice any opinions on these matters. Any problems, please get in touch with hsauro@cds.caltech.edu regards Herbert Sauro Caltech .
