Since then I have come across a new paper in Biochemical Education that contains a large amount of data likely to be useful for calculating the equilibrium constants of biochemical reactions under physiological conditions. The reference is as follows: R. A. Alberty (2000) "Calculating apparent equilibrium constants of enzyme-catalyzed reactions at pH 7" Biochem. Educ. 28, 12-17. Table 1 (p. 14) contains standard transformed Gibbs energies of formation of about 140 biochemical species at 25°C, pH 7 and three different ionic strengths (0, 0.10 and 0.25). The text includes several examples showing how one can use the tabulated data to calculate equilibrium constants for specific enzyme-catalysed reactions. athel Athel Cornish-Bowden athel@ibsm.cnrs-mrs.fr --- .
