Funded by the BBSRC, the project involves screening Gal4 lines for specific expression in the larval olfactory neural network and constructing an anatomical map of the its components. Based in the University Manchester (UK), the research will be carried out in collaboration with Reinhard Stocker at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), and will involve regular travel for discussion and training. The applicant must be skilled in Drosophila neurogenetics. Neuroanatomical skills would be an advantage but are not essential. This project forms part of a new research group focussing on the neurogenetics of chemical senses in Drosophila. Life sciences in Manchester are currently undergoing an unprecedented spate of growth, making this faculty one of the most attractive in the UK. Manchester is an exciting city and was recently voted the best place to work in England by post-doctoral researchers.
