Not my fault this time (I think), but Netscape's mailer appears to have screwed it up. The whole message should have read as follows: A reply to Steve Collins, "Is there any evidence for metabolic adaptations to spare protein during starvation / prolonged fasting?" Have a look at pp. 166-174 of Keith N. Frayn "Metabolic regulation: a human perspective" (Portland Press, London, 1996). It's a very good and readable account of many aspects of human metabolism, and includes a detailed description and discussion of changes during starvation. A quick skim through the cited pages suggests that the answer to your question is "yes". Athel athel@ibsm.cnrs-mrs.fr .
