The overall study involves such diverse skills and interests as the quantitative genetics of metabolic energy pools, SNP studies of geographic variation, pathway flux analysis using NMR, basic DNA sequencing, and the kinetic characterization of enzyme variants. Knowledge of some of these methods is desirable but not required for consideration for the position. The second position, which is NSF-supported, will focus on the QTL mapping and goal of eventual recovery of the gene or genes responsible for cold-induced female reproductive diapause in D. melanogaster. This person is expected to also interact with some aspects of the metabolic grant above. The positions are available immediately, but will remain open until the best candidate is found.
