The frequently assumed linearity between these variables turns out to be a good first approximation, but we want to find a better approximation. Until now, we have found two papers where Delta pH and Delta Psi were measured separately, in dependence on some parameter such as inhibition of the respiratory chain (Duszynski et al., BBA 1984; Ouhabi et al., BBA 1991). Is anybody aware of other papers giving such data, perhaps concerning other membranes involving an electrogenic proton transport (lysosome membranes, bacteriorhodopsin liposomes, plant vacuolar membranes, chromaffine granules etc.)? Thanks a lot in advance. Stefan Schuster, Berlin e-mail: Stefan=Schuster@rz.hu-berlin.de .
