Congratulations on your purchase of BeOS Pro Edition 5.0 from Gobe Software.

BeOS Pro Edition 5.0 allows you to perform a full install of BeOS in a partition on your hard disk (recommended) or to install BeOS Personal Edition in a file under MS-Windows.

To check if your computer is BeOS ready click here.

To perform a full install of BeOS:

Create a BeOS partition on your hard disk by clicking the "Create BeOS partition" button on the launcher, then follow the instructions in the installation section of the users guide to finish the install procedure. You may need to create a boot floppy (startup disk) that will start your computer from the BeOS CD.

You may optionally install BeOS Personal Edition in a file under Windows:

This is quick way to determine if your machine is BeOS-ready before creating a separate BeOS partition on your hard disk, but does not install many of the extras available in the full install. BeOS Personal Edition's file will use approximately 500 MB of disk space so you may need to uninstall it in order free up space when you decide to do a full install.

Creating a Boot Floppy:

You may need to create a "boot floppy" if your computer is unable to boot (start up) from the BeOS Pro Edition CD. You also may need to create a boot floppy if after installing BeOS into a partition you decide not to install the bootman (boot menu). To create a boot floppy insert a blank (formatted) floppy disk into drive "A:" and click the "Create Boot Floppy" button in the BeOS Installer Launcher; any data on the floppy will be erased. Insert the BeOS Boot floppy before restarting your computer and it will start the BeOS installer from the CD or start BeOS from your hard disk.
