OPEN SOURCE SOLUTIONS, Inc. International Public Intelligence Clearinghouse 1914 Autumn Chase Court, Falls Church, Virginia 22043-1753 Voice: (703) 536-1775 | Facsimile: (703) 536-1776 INTERNET: steeler@well.sf.ca.us 8 October 1993 About the company.... OSS, Inc., originally a non-profit educational corporation (501c3), was converted to a for-profit recently after Wall Street and publishing contacts made clear their disdain for non-profits ("they are all scam artists"). While not agreeing with that assessment, it became clear that to convert the unwashed, we would have to walk in their shoes--hence, we are a for-profit with a mission. The company was founded in 1992 to facilitate and accelerate discussion and understanding, both within governments and in the private sectors of all countries, of those issues which must be resolved if each country and each enterprise is to be competitive in the Age of Information. The company is an international leader is the theory and practice of utilizing open source information, and in helping different elements of the information continuum (K-12, universities, libraries, businesses, information brokers, media, government, defense, and national intelligence agencies) coordinate their open source collection, processing and translation efforts to avoid wasting manpower and dollars on duplicative information efforts. OSS, Inc. is the world's only International Public Intelligence Clearinghouse. It is an authoritative "one stop shop" for information about open sources, methods, and products. As a clearinghouse, the company helps producers and consumers of information improve their practices and lower their costs. The company is fully involved and supportive of the National Information Infrastructure efforts led by the Vice President, and is the leading proponent for taking funds away from the National Foreign Intelligence Community in order to nurture a "virtual" (distributed) national intelligence community of unclassified centers of excellence on specific topics, disciplines, cultures, and countries--a community in the service of citizens, rather than an elite. .
