This message was sent th rough the T1 data line that is part of the Los Alamos National Laboratory Small Business Administration (SBIR) award to La Plaza. It may not be so momentous as Alexander Graham Bell's "What hath God wrought," but for La Plaza, it was a major milestone. This doesn't mean that we are assigning email addresses yet, but it does mean that we are getting closer. We want to thank everyone who has been involved in the Los Alamos project, including: Bonnie Yantis, Nate Bobbitt, Greg Shannon, Rick Ulibarri Robert Martinez, Phil Wood, as well as all the folks at La Plaza, but particularly Paul Cross, who hooked it up, and Bob Malchie, a private consultant, who configured the machine. LA PLAZA RECEIVES INTERIM SERVER FROM LANL La Plaza received a Sun IPX server from LANL that will be used until a new leased server comes online. With the Sun IPX, some modems, phone lines, and other bits and pieces, some limited dial-up will be possible. Currently, we can get online directly from the La Plaza office at UNM-Taos. LA PLAZA NEEDS MODEMS AND TELEPHONE LINES La Plaza needs high-speed modems and telephone lines so that local dial-up access can be provided. This is not an advertisement, but MacWarehouse ( 1- 800-255-6227) has "Magnum 144," 14.4 baud modems (p. 22, order no. MOD 0183) on sale for $99.00.***HINT-HINT*** For those who would like to donate a high-speed modem and telephone line, the total cost for one-year sponsorship would be approximately $700 to $800. Most of this cost is due to telephone line charges. A measured-service business line for one year, including all set-up charges, is $584.47. The monthly charge, including all taxes is $36.24 per month). Remember you donation is tax deductible. Anyone sponsoring a line and modem will be honored at the upcoming La Plaza party. Yes, a real party, plus other interesting and exciting events. More on the party later. And, they will receive credit on the opening La Plaza s creen. LA PLAZA PARTY AND VIDEO La Plaza will be holding its first "La Plaza Day" celebration, party, and premier of its new video on Saturday, 10 September 1994. We are planning to hold the party in two different locations (a "virtual" party) and will communicate via computer and possibly video link (if we can get the video equipment). We will be conducting live Internet, video link (possibly), and digital camera demonstrations. Terry Wolfe, a local Taos computer artist and woodcarver, will demonstrate techniques of computer art creation. A La Plaza volunteer and film maker, Jet Loe, has been working tirelessly on "La Plaza--The Movie" for several months. The premier of this multi-media experience will be held during the La Plaza Day celebration. Volunteers are needed for the planning and implementation of the La Plaza Day Celebration. If you can provide any assistance, please contact the main La Plaza office at 758-1836. .
