About the La Plaza Section of the WELLgopher I first met the people behind Taos' La Plaza Foundation at the Telluride Ideas Festival, where the Telluride IdeaZone/Civic Net was being discussed. Most of the attendees were either locals or well-known people in network circles. But the trio from Taos -- Patrick Finn, Richard Bryant, and Spiros Antonopoulos -- materialized out of nowhere. And they returned home with a passionate desire to get a civic network up and running in a town where there was no prior connectivity; no PC Pursuit dial-ins, no public UNIX sites, no Fido boards, nothing. Since July 1993, they've managed to incorporate, create liaisons with the University of New Mexico and local business and government, and begin fundraising. They've agreed to make some of their working papers available here for those attempting to develop their own civic nets. They encourage you to take freely anything you need, as much of what they've used to create these materials originated on the nets.
