We are in the scheduling process for the Fall 93 DECUS symposium in
San Francisco, Dec 4-10.  The deadline for submitting sessions is
August 30, 1993.  I'm coordinating a special stream of sessions "to
bring a world of information to the desktop via the Internet".  The
goal is to put together a cohesive set of sessions.  You are invited to
submit sessions and recommend speakers or sessions.  I've included a
draft of some of my ideas below.

To submit sessions, you have the following options:

        - fill out the tradional hardcopy CFP (call DECUS office
          (508) 841-3527 if you need one)

        - send me email (newkirk@decus.org) with an abstract and the
          following information:

                Long Title (less than 80 characters)
                Short title (less than 30 characters)
                Time requested (30 min, 1 hour, etc.)
                Technical level (novice, intermediate, advanced)
                Orientation (technical, general, managerial)
                name
                company
                address
                city, state  zip
                telephone
                email
                DECUS number
                additional speaker, if appropriate
                special audio-visual needs

Here are some of my 'streaming' thoughts:

    Why connect?
        Status of NSFnet, NREN, NII, commercialism on the net, overview of
        what's out there... more managerial oriented or very introductory
        to the general user.

    How to connect?
        Perhaps 2 flavors:  one for the manager-type with various options
        for who to call, costs to expect, hardware/software needed, etc.
        and maybe one of a more technical nature.

    Services/Resources on the Internet
        Lots of potential here: email/ftp/telnet, databases, anonymous FTP,
        Library Card Catalogs, CWIS, Free-Nets, Discussions lists, USENET
        news, tools: gopher, archie, veronica, jughead, WAIS, WWW,...

    TCP/IP Programming
        How to program using TCP/IP libraries to write your own tools, more
        technical stuff on the tools available

    Include access from various platforms... OpenVMS, Ultrix, PCs, Macs
