                         XV COMMONWEALTH GAMES 
                 ONLINE YOUTH AND EDUCATION PROGRAM

The XV Commonwealth Games will take place in Victoria, 
British Columbia, Canada, August 18-28, 1994. These "Friendly Games" 
are a venue for athletes from Commonwealth countries around the 
world to gather and compete:
      "The XV Commonwealth Games is an international athletic 
      competition that promotes opportunities for human development
      and celebrates cross-cultural understanding, the tradition of good
      sportsmanship and the triumph of personal achievement." 
The Games also provide an opportunity for all individuals, 
organizations,and schools to share in the excitement.

This is a call to all interested individuals connected to the Internet, 
for expressions of interest in becoming involved in a variety of online 
activities referred to as the XV Commonwealth Games Online Youth 
and Education Program. 

The purpose of these activities is to encourage the participation of 
young people in the excitement and activities of the 1994 
Commonwealth Games by
- raising teachers' and students' awareness of the educational possibilities 
associated with the Games
- providing learning resources that will support the creation of relevant, 
thematic, and integrated learning opportunities at the school level.

The XV Commonwealth Games Online Youth and Education program
will consist of a variety of activities (email correspondence, online 
conferences, newsgroups, list servers and online databases of 
information) all hosted on the computer systems of the Community 
Learning Network of British Columbia. 
You do not have to be a member of the Community Learning Network
to take part in these activities.
