======================================================================== RED CIENTIFICA PERUANA PSI ======================================================================== >Anybody recognize this type of address? The user is in Austria. I already >contacted the folks at PSI.COM, who said it has nothing to do with them. > >System: PSI-MAIL > Address: PSI%2631110302::POLLAK Given the syntax, this is almost certainly a reference to DEC's proprietary VAX-PSI product which can, among other things, be used to send DECNet-style mail (MAIL-11 protocol) over PPSDN (public packet switched network) connections or X.25 connections more generally. The 2631110302 part is an X.25-type network address; POLLAK is the user id. In general, it is not possible to communicate with these addresses by routing from the Internet. In order to have one of the exceptions, you will need either: -- A gateway willing to handle the traffic for you and do the protocol conversions (this will likely come with a different style of address). or -- A machine, probably a VMS VAX, with the PSI software installed, a direct connection to one of the PPSDNs (SprintNet, BP Tymnet, Accunet, etc., in the US) and willingness to make this call for you and incur the charges. These are much less common in the US than they are outside it. .
