American Legion Veterans Center Welcome aboard ! The Veteran's SIG is for any veteran of war or peace time, and any and all Veterans' Organizations to use. Its purpose is to give veterans a place to find help, get referrals, ask questions, and in general, an area to communicate with others who have served. Note - Foul language and flames should be sent in private email and not posted here ! This SIG is sponsored by The American Legion, Department of R.I. When opinions are expressed here by a SIG-op, it does not necessarily represent the opinion or standing of the entire American Legion. Note - We are not the Veteran's Adminstration ! If you've already been given due process by the V.A. we can be of no further help. The general public is invited to post in most areas here. The Q & A sections are reserved for veterans, spouses, and/or relatives in need of assistance. The outline below explains in detail the purpose of the individual sections. Although we would prefer the postings stay related to this SIG, if they vary off topic somewhat it's acceptable. The Boot Camp section. We've seen published in some local newspapers the names of our newly recruited servicemen and women when they have completed basic training or their higher education in the service. If you know of someone, or see their names published, this is the place to post them. Our congratulations go out to these fine men and women for choosing to serve their country. The Old Glory section. This area is for posting anything having to do with the Flag. Some say it's a constitutional right to burn the Flag, and it is. If you think about it, in some countries you could even get shot for that ! Only in America do you have the freedom to do it. It should be protected for that reason, the freedom that it represents alone. " For those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know. " The POW/MIA section. This area is for posting anything concerning the POW/MIA issue that constantly haunts us. There are thousands that remain as Prisoners Of War or Missing In Action from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Even if only just one remains as POW/MIA, it should be our vigil to bring him/her home. We have not and will not let this issue rest until it is resolved! Our sincere and deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of those in these classifications. " POW/MIA's, They Still Wait ! " The Ask The C.Q. section. We are here to serve those with interests in veteran's affairs. Here we will try to answer your general questions if we can do so, or we'll attempt to put you in touch with those who can be of more help. The Ask The Service Officer section. We are here to serve those with interests in matters related to V.A. benefits & claims. Here we'll attempt to answer those type of questions if we can do so, or we'll try to put you in touch with those who can be of more help. The Sick Call/Taps section. This is the place to post the names of persons known to you that are hospitalized or deceased. Our get well wishes go out to those who are hospitaized. Our sympathy is extended to the survivors of those who have served their country. The P.X. section. This section is set aside as a for sale/wanted area of military type goods. This is not to say strictly military issue items. Postings of camping and hunting goods would be more than welcome here. If you no longer fit into your old field jacket and wish to post it, this is the place to do so. The U.S.O. section. This area is designed for jokes, military humor, or a story you wish to tell people about something that happened while you were in the service. Some stories may be not at all funny, and they don't have to be. Anything you would like to share having educational, entertaining, or therapeutic value for yourself or other veterans is welcome here. The Weekend Pass section. If your local veteran's organization is having any kind of function, this is the place to post it. If it's something that the public is invited to attend please mention that. If tickets need to be purchased prior to it, please give the information of prices, and whom to contact for further information. The Five Star General section. This is the area designated for all other postings that aren't covered in the rest of the groups. .
