Elementary teachers work with children from kindergarten through eighth grade in many subject areas. Secondary school teachers instruct students in one or more areas of specialization. Certificates are issued to qualified applicants in certain specialties, including reading, music, art, and secondary school subjects. EDUCATION AND Provisional certificate (valid for three years): EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school, and complete append program. Complete Core Battery of National Teacher Examination. Professional certificate (valid for five years): Complete six credits of college or in-service education while under provisional certificate. Three years of teaching in Rhode Island. Life professional certificate (valid for life): Master's degree or thirty-six hours of related course work Six years of teaching experience, three of which must be in Rhode Island.
