OPTOMETRIST

Examines, diagnoses and treats conditions of the visual system.
Prescribes corrective procedures to improve and correct vision
utilizing vision therapy and training, corrective lenses and
control of the visual environment.


AGE:              18 years or older

CITIZENSHIP:      Not required. If foreign born, must provide 
                  proof of legal entry into the United States.

RESIDENCY:        No requirement

RECIPROCITY:      Yes, at Board's discretion.EDUCATION AND     Complete at least two years of undergraduate
   EXPERIENCE:    education.
                  Be a graduate of an accredited four-year
                  program in Optometry.
                  Pass the written examination of the National
                  Board of Examiners in Optometry, including the
                  Pharmacology section.
                  Pass the International Association of Boards of
                  Optometry examination in the treatment and
                  management of ocular disease (TMOD).
                  Pass the NERCOATS regional practical
                  examination.
                  Complete a six month internship and a
                  seventy-two hour clinical therapeutic training
                  program.
                  Pass the Board administered Clinical Competency
                  Examination.
