Reads eyeglass lens and frame specifications from prescription,
selects lens blanks, sets up and operates machines to fabricate
lenses to specifications. Mounts lenses in frames, inspects for
conformity to specifications.


AGE:              18 years or older

CITIZENSHIP:      Not required. If foreign born, must provide
                  proof of legal entry into the United States.

RESIDENCY:        No requirement

RECIPROCITY:      No EDUCATION AND     Be a high school graduate 
   EXPERIENCE:    Complete full-time 3 year apprenticeship under
                  licensed optician or optometrist OR have
                  graduated from an approved school of opticanry
                  and completed a one-year, full time
                  apprenticeship. Pass written examination by the
                  American Board of Opticianry, and practical
                  examination by the Advisory Committee for
                  Opticianry. Be of good moral character.

R.I. EXAMINATION: Practical by the Advisory Committee for Opticianry.

RENEWAL:          Every two years
