CLINICAL HISTOLOGIC TECHNICIAN

Prepare specimens of human and animal tissues for microscopic
examinations. May perform other routine operations in the
pathology laboratory, such as preserving specimens.

AGE:              No requirement   

CITIZENSHIP:      Not required. If foreign born, must provide
                  proof of legal entry into the United States.

RESIDENCY:        No requirement

RECIPROCITY:      Yes, provided that standards meet or exceed
                  those of Rhode Island.EDUCATION AND     Have an associate degree or 60 semester hours
   EXPERIENCE:      that include mathematics, 12 or more hours in
                    biology and chemistry; must be in accredited
                    programs in histologic technique.
                  NOTE: Consult licensing agency for
                    alternatives.

R.I. EXAM:        Certification examination of the American 
                    Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or 
                    the National Certification Agency for Medical 
                    Laboratory Personnel (NCA) or state civil
                    service examination.

RENEWAL:          Every two years
