LABOR MARKET INFORMATION The Labor Market Information (LMI) Unit is a central resource for a wide variety of employment statistics and demographic information. The LMI Unit collects, analyzes and disseminates basic employment and unemployment data, employment projections by industry and occupation, industry staffing patterns, hourly wage rates, the supply and demand of workers, affirmative action data and much more.The Public Relations office, as an integral part of the LMI Unit, keeps the general public informed of department programs and accomplishments through news releases, public service announcements and advertisements. Because the Public Relations office is the Department's central source for information, most public inquiries are directed to this Unit. The Public Relations office also keeps agency personnel apprised of departmental news and events through announcements, flyers and videos.Labor Market Information is of interest to many people. Employers use such information for analyzing current business conditions, setting pay scales, and recruiting employees. Government officials use Labor Market information for making policy decisions, preparing economic forecasts and planning training programs. Career counselors use this information to increase their knowledge of the job market and to guide students and others in making career decisions.
