You may have heard of us, we ve been here since 1933 when the Wagner Peyser Act was signed into law, establishing a Federal- State Partnership to provide employment assistance to America s jobless. For more than 50 years this agency has responded to R.I. s ever-changing employment needs... Through Temporary Income Support programs, the Department provides financial assistance to workers to workers who have lost their jobs, or who are temporarily ill and unable to work. Through Labor Market Information programs, the Department provides valuable data and analyses of labor market trends and conditions, and is a vital tool for economic development. Through Job Placement programs, the Department provides opportunities for skills training in classroom settings, and on-the job training in workplace settings. Through Employer Services Programs, the Department offers assistance to employers in recruiting qualified workers for their companies. Through Dislocated Workers programs, the Department provides job referral and retraining services to workers who have been laid off from their jobs because of plant closings or mass layoffs. Through our Tax programs, the Department collects taxes for Unemployment Insurance and Temporary Disability. .
