Free parking! RSVP. General public is welcome. Place: Providence Journal, Auditorium, 75 Fountain Street, Providence, RI (277-7000) (detailed directions will follow) Attend the first public showing of "Rhode Island Horizons"--"an on-line community hosted by the Providence Journal-Bulletin". Scheduled to officially debut on 1 May 1995, this new on-line service will focus on RI specific news, entertainment, and advertising. Good news! ...online access to ProJo's news, editorials, and columns... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Bad news! ...online access is via Prodigy... Ok, so "Rhode Island Horizons" will at first be available only through Prodigy :( --I know :( you know :( they even know ;), but other means of access are in its future. Certainly, a strong showing by 'Net people might help to persuade them that the Internet is *the* way to go. If time allows, PJB reps will also present other electronic publishing services--J/Text, J/Clips, etc.--and will address online access (or lack thereof) to these services. Speakers: Ed Huff, Harriet Rantoul, and technical, management, and marketing representatives of the Providence Journal's Electronic Publishing Services. PJB EPS is using its own online demonstration equipment so all seats should have a good view of the presentation. Software to allow 10 free hours of access to Rhode Island Horizons will be distributed. The Journal has also graciously arranged for *free parking*, security, and refreshments. Pre-registration is not required but RSVP via email or telephone so we can adequately prepare for those attending. ASAP, OSIS will email specific info on the location of the auditorium, directions for drivers, and RIPTA info. Feel free to post car pool offers or requests to the OSIS IUG newsgroup on the Ocean State Free- Net. (So all you native RI'ers have no excuse to not take that *long* drive into *far-away* downtown Providence. ) This announcement and related info is available via the OSIS gopher at gopher://osfn.rhilinet.gov/INTERNET. To reach OSFN, telnet 198.115.224.201; or, dial 946-9810, enter "guest" for userid and password, then "telnet osfn.rhilinet.gov".
