CottonDB 96.9

The latest version of CottonDB 96.9 (September, 1996) uses the binary of 
ACEDB 4.3. I haven't seen any major problems with this version, 
but please report problems if it needs to be repaired.

This version was compiled and run on a Sun SPARCstation using OS 
Solaris 2.5 (SunOS 5.5). Other machine platforms are available. Here 
are the relevant files present at probe.nalusda.gov:/raid/home/cotton/aftp

./database      (Directory for CottonDB binaries and other accesories)
./database/COT_96.9_database.tar.gz
                (gzipped 96.9 release database (September, 1996), 
                gzip size 36169435; uncompressed size 135562240; 
                untar in $ACEDB directory to unpack running version; 
                runs on a Sun SPARCstation running Solaris 2.5
                using ACEDB 4.3 binary; get $ACEDB/externalFiles 
                for image files not included in this file.)
./database/COT_96.9_rawdata.tar.gz
                (gzipped raw data files of CottonDB 96.9, 
                untar in $ACEDB directory to unpack files into $ACEDB/rawdata; 
                gzip size 9322645; uncompressed size 225347072;
./database/COT_96.9_externalfiles.tar
                (tarred $ACEDB/externalFiles directory with images
                contained in CottonDB 96.9; untar in $ACEDB directory;
                tarred size 5327872)
./database_images (Directory for images included in COT_96.9_externalfiles.tar)
