Of course, some dirty socks or underwear could've fallen out and I probably wouldn't have noticed. I suppose the reason that they didn't want to search the luggage in front of me is that then I would have proof that they were too stupid/ clumsy to work the zipper and broke it instead which would make the automatic disclaimer inserted in my bag not as useful. The suitcase is about 10 years old and has some wear, I don't see the point of getting further frustrated by even bothering to call them and ask for compensation. Of course, my wonderful baby sister (she really is except for this one thing), a conservative Republican, immediately jumped to their defense and suggested calling the airline and asking them for reimbursement because, of course, US government employees would never damage a suitcase like that.
