Subj : Alinco DJ-C4T To : W8ZZU From : Night Owl Date : Mon Sep 05 2005 21:44:00 Re: Alinco DJ-C4T By: W8ZZU to Night Owl on Mon Sep 05 2005 17:07:00 Jason, Thanks for the info - I see what you mean, my FRS/GMRS claim a 5 mile range - but I know that a standard FRS radio will get about 1/2 to 1 mile if you are lucky - and those are in the 440mhz range if I'm not mistaken. I've not been able to find an affordable 440 yet, I know and was told that there was a lot of activity in this area, and I'm looking to kind of explore on a budget as it were. I probably should have spent what little money I had on a good tri-band or dual-band radio -- But at the time when I passed my test I only had a few bucks left and got a pretty good deal on an Icom IC-02AT with some extras for $50 - I just found a Icom IC-03AT (220 band) which I picked up for a little more - but seems the 220 HTs are holding the vaule more then the 2 meter ones - So I've got 150 invested in two radios, I could have spent just a little more and got a descent tri-band - Oh well, live and learn - that is why I was asking about the DJ-C4T it's in my price range, and I don't want to start over selling what I have to just buy something else for about the same money... I think I'll stay away from the Alinco thou, Just from the pictures it looks like a cheapy. And if I were to resell it, probably would not be worth what I had to pay for it...then again few if anything is worth what you pay for it on a used market. I've also been looking at an older Radio Shack HTX-404, and saw an HTX-400 (which is a mini radio, but has good reviews, less power then the Alinco, so probably need to stay away from that one too) The HTX-404 I beleive was made by ICOM, but I've not been able to find which ICOM equivlant it is. The reviews for it are mixed, but over all it looks like a descent older radio. Would really like to get on the 440band and see what else is going on in the world! :) hahaha. Thanks for the info, I found it useful. LeRoy KD8BXP --- þ Synchronet þ Cyber Station 1 BBS - telnet://cyber-station1.com .
