If run the archiver on its own, it worls fine. When Watergate calls the archiver to pack mail, things stuff up. The strange thing is that Watergate by itself runs flawless under NT4. All routing and tossing and gating performs wonderwell. The only problem is the packing of outbound mail. I suspected something like memory availability in the DOS box, and I played a bit with the settings in NT4, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Strange, because I like to run Watergate for the FTN > UUCP translation and routing. Also because of the built-in Areafix and Newsfix. Pretty difficoult to get something similar what Newsfix does for the UUCP downlinks. I have no idea why it won't run uder NT4 and if you have some idea where to look I'll go an test it. Has been running for years now. Never skips a beat. These nine patches are a royal pain when you have to re-install on another machine, but I think it is still worth it. Nothing else is as integrated to do UUCP and FTN in the same package. I ran both the DPMI version and the DOS version. Both with the same result at calling an external archiver to pack mail. Under Win98 not a problem. Under NT4 it only works now and then. And more then than now. I might give it another try and get Watergate to send packets only (no archiving), and get some other program to do the mail bundling. Don't know if that will work as yet, but it sounds like a good workaround. JH> About another version? I don't know... Some Delphi people around here are telling me that the Borland Pascal code is not so hard to convert to Delphi. If it does, it should probaly fix the NT4/Win2000 problem. Don't know if that is true.
