Subj : [--- SLIP/PPP FTP ? ---] To : CHARLES ANGELICH From : WINSTON SMITH Date : Sat Sep 02 2000 08:02 pm -> From your description in this message and your other message I think -> you have a shell account that needs to be accessed using a standard -> terminal app (with either VT100 or ANSI controls turned ON). -> The host BBS is doing the actual connect to the network for you using -> it's own resident apps. -> Does this sound accurate? Well, it isn't really an ISP shell account. The Xyplex Modem Pool is more like an "intelligent" multiplexer. There is no operating system to speak of, more like services loaded from static RAM into operating memory. If I want shell services then I have to connect to a mainframe that is running an operating system. (Otherwise, if it was a mainframe I could just type FTP, then use XMODEM to offload from the mainframe. This thing is more like a workstation that is dedicated to being a giant modem gateway.... --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v3.0pr3 * Origin: Lost in the SuperMarket - Peabody, MA - 978-531-8416 (1:101/101) .
