I just found out about the uedit executable, and it works perfectly!  Thanks 
for this :)

Ahh, didn't know that...  I'll re-enable it.  I guess I'm just kinda 
paranoid.  I set this box up yestereday evening, and already my 
/var/log/message is swarming with SSH login attempts with every username 
imagineable plus a portscan.  I know this is common, but dang -- on a box 
that's only been up for a few hours no less :)

I blocked the guy's IP addy through iptables.
