As the fabric falls, Colonel Mik charges through the opening, followed by Edgar. Brother John backs away as Lyfun and his group bring the horses over. There are muffled sounds for a few seconds, incuding one stifled yelp, then quiet. Finally, Edgar and Mik emerge from the tent with the last of the swords and the tracking rod. Mik is holding his leg, which is bleeding fairly badly. "We had to get this thing," he says, holding up the tracking rod, "or we'ld be back at point zero. One of them woke up enough to grab a dagger and cut me. It's a fairly deep jab, I think." Edgar looks sadly at Lyfun. "We had to kill them, unfortunately. I do hope they weren't your close friends." Lyfun says quietly, "They were traitors and scoundrels. I liked them, but I always knew we would end up on opposite sides eventually." Colonel Mik makes a makeshift bandage out of torn canvas and slows the bleeding. "It'll scar, but we don't have time to stitch it up properly. "Hopefully, the ladies will think it's a romantic scar." You skirt the tents, but nobody seems to stir. Carefully, you trace your way back to the road, taking longer than the trip in. On the way, Lyfun explains a bit more about the bandits who captured you. "As near as I can tell, Liance actually believes what he told you. But that's not going to make him the legitimate king, no matter what he says. "Most of the people with him are scallawags and ruffians, using the excuse of having a pretender to rob people. If Liance hadn't been around, they would have found some other reason to be out in the woods. Or no reason at all. "There are a couple people there who actually believe in him, though. Those are the ones who might be dangerous. "I was sent to this camp by General Feldhog to see what was going on, and if Liance might become an actual threat. But I was about to leave soon anyway." After a while, you reach the road. Lyfun points down the road the way you were headed. "There's an inn down that way about an hour's ride. Here's a bit of money; it should get you a bit of food. The innkeepers are somewhat friendly to Liance's band, so don't talk too much. I'll take our friend here to get help: it looks like his leg is still bleeding, and I know a few people who might be trusted to keep quiet. I'll catch up with you if I can; otherwise, leave a message at the Egriene fort for me with the commander. Use my name. He's someone who can be trusted." Brother John finds his walking stick lying where it was tossed. OOC: I'm not needing much in the way of replies to this unless there's something specific you would like to ask or do. I hope to have the next section out within a week, time and pulled muscles permitting. I have not heard from Andrew Toth recently. Andrew, if you're out there, let me know and I'll keep Lyfun around; otherwise Lyfun is going to report back to the government. -- |Fidonet: mbottorff@sprintmail.com |Internet: scott@conchbbs.com | | Standard disclaimer: The views of this user are strictly his own. --- # Origin: (1:106/357.99) * Origin: ConchGate (1:106/357.0) .
