this is the change you need for the linux version, only the 'tping' proc is
changed. i added the '-c 1' argument is that i didn't have to brute force
kill the ping within the program. and i added a 'wait' so that zombies
weren't created:


proc tping {} {
     global timetowait five_minutes
     
     while {1} {
           spawn ping -c 1 members.home.net
           set timeout 15

           expect {
                  "Request timed out"  {notpinged}
                  "Reply from" {pinged}
                  "bytes from" {pinged}
                  default {notpinged}
           }
	   wait
           sleep $five_minutes
     }
}
