Subj : FIDO echo privacy To : Jim White From : Joe Nicholson Date : Mon Nov 17 2003 07:53 am -=> Quoting Jim White to George Pope <=- GP>> One user has complained, suggesting that it feels like an GP>> invasion of privacy to her, to have "non family intruding GP>> on our conversations". . . PB> Kinda strange having an expectation of privacy in an open echo... PB> It's not like a private chat room, or email for that matter. JW> I wouldn't have even mentioned it here, George. I first heard about JW> this gating/porting of MEMORIES back when Kent Anderson was still JW> Moderator, and that was over 3 years ago. It's a public forum, And by being public, it invites newcomers, or non-family as someone called it. How the heck do echoes receive new members if they were closed? How did that person who is complaining get to join MEMORIES in the first place? She (gender taken from Jim's post) was non-family until she read and posted. No one should have an expectation of privacy outside their home. Bank cameras, 7-11 cameras, red-light cameras, FOX TV at NFL games, none of them are an invasion of privacy. If someone has a problem with that, let them spend the rest of their life at home, locked up in the bedroom. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Shakey Jake's *ALL FREE BBS* Santee, CA (1:202/1324) .
