Subj : Re: Setting up a brackish To : All From : Jeff Street Date : Wed Dec 18 2002 11:00 am *** I CUT AND PASTED WRONGLY, SORRY, THIS IS THE FULL TEXT *** I have a Marineland 20-gallon Aquarium kit and I am setting it up as a brackish tank. I need help; first I am in no rush and I am going slow as I have my 2 mono's and my butter pleco in a 10 gallon tank, the Mono's love to eat Krill, chopped up of course. I want this tank to be a true brackish tank. for the bottom of the tank, I bought a 10 pound bag of Nature's Ocean Samoa Pink Sand and a 10 pound bag of Pacific Coral Gravel. My tank will look saltwaterish with a silver background. I have 3 coral rocks and 3 plants I can put in the tank also. SHOULD I ADD MORE CORAL FOR PH LEVELS, WHAT IS A GOOD LEVEL? Enough of the small talk... HOW DO I TRUELY MAKE MY TANK BRACKISH (and will the filter screw up the Gravity, etc...) What are the proper settings... I bought a SeaTest Hydrometer and I can measure... but I need to know more on brackish water (though I have read a lot). The filter is a penguin 125, the heater is a Dual-Temp 5-20, I have a whisper 1 filter also. The fish (very active) for the tank, at the start are... 2 Mono Argentus (who are one month in my 10 gallon and around 2 inches high) 1 butter pleco (around 4 inches long) WHAT OTHER FISH CAN BE ADDED? (I wanted a mono tank, but I saw some white and red Puffers in a tank with Mono Argentus and I would like them also, but how many?). Well, that is it, I am sure there has to be a brackish expert or 3 who can help. Thanks in advance. --Jeffrey PS. two unrelated questions? Anyone, even non-brackish experts can help here... first, I would like to learn able automatic feeders... are they worth it and what is the best? Second, I would like to learn more on air pumps, I see air pumps in giant aquariums that make it look as the bubbles are coming from the middle-floor of the tank... how do I do that? Thanks everyone even if you just ran through my questions, but anyone who has a thought, please post.
